Flyers Look to Improve in the 2nd Half of the Season...

With the Varsity Softball Flyers record of 7-6, the team is at the midpoint of their season. After coming off difficult losses to conference foes Parkway South and Oakville on Sept. 14th and 17th respectively, the young Flyers squad is poised to improve and turn some heads in the post season. The team has already impressed with their showing in the Suburban South / West Conference Tournament going 3-1 to capture the Consolation Championship. Following that outing the Flyers then garnered 2nd place honors at the Cor Jesu Tournament defeating Cape Central and Cor Jesu by the score of 13-2. "This team has the potential to come together and really make some noise come playoff time. Our goal is to be playing our best ball in October. What we do between now and then is all geared toward growing and improving everyday as a team," stated Head Coach Darin Scott.

The 2007 squad is made up of a wide variety of players across all 4 classes. Currently there are 4 seniors, 3 juniors, 2 sophomores and 6 freshman comprising the Varsity team. The Flyers are led by 4 year starter and returning senior Chelsea Schaffer. Schaffer, the shortstop, is currently batting .500 and leads the team in extra base hits. Also leading the Flyers is their senior ace pitcher, Katie McCune. Katie Asbridge and Loren Finnegan round out the returning senior players.

Upcoming for the Flyers will be a Conference game v. Kirkwood on Wednesday and a Non-Conference battle with Seckman on Friday, both at Flyers Field. On Saturday, the team will head towards the Seckman Tournament, a 4 games in one day marathon, that could answer a lot of questions for the remaining games of the season.
